Orbital Cellulitis huh… sounds more like a satellite projection plan to me, but that’s what’s going on with my EYE. I actually have had this once before – way back when in 3rd grade, complete with a rush to the ER, two IV drips, and two hugh jass needles full of drugs pumped into each thigh.
Cute, right? I don’t look like this.. but when I had it in 3rd grade, I couldn’t even put my glasses on my eye was so swollen!!
LUCKILY, I caught it before it got to that stage this time because I knew what I was feeling. I’m all pumped up on antibiotics..
but I’m even MORE PUMPED to run tonight! Once you get over the soeffingcold-factor, running in Minnesota in the winter is kinda nice.
Going with the same guys I’ve run with every Tuesday night for the last three years. Which brings me to the point of this very short post – crazy freak eye infections WINTER RUNNING!

I’ll try n get some photos of my winter gear, throw in some tips and fun facts, but more importantly I’d like to answer any questions that YOU may have! Every Tuesday I come home from my run and my roomie says, “You were running outside??” Yes my friend. Running does continue as the snow falls and the temperatures drop!
Got a question about running through snow/negative20°/ice/treadmillin’ it? Let me know – leave a comment here!

See you soon!

i had that exact periorbital ceullitis 3 yrs ago!!!! except i didn’t catch it early, thought it was a sty, slept on it, woke up and BAM the eye was swollen shut. i had to go to the ER and they were like good thing you came in you need an antibiotic or if you just let it go there is potential for blindness?! way to freak me out. lol. AND my insurance at the time didn’t cover the antibiotic but the doc sent me to the hospital’s own pharmacy and gave me a voucher for the meds free of charge cuz she was like well you don’t have a choice you need it.
glad you caught it early
First off, yes – Angela as in old college RW Angela. Are you in MN now? It’s where all the cool cats are! Tried to get back to you on twitter, but you weren’t following me, so I couldn’t respond.
Winter running!! Ahhhhhh! I really want to run through the winter, but damn it’s cold…I have some warm tights, but I do need to invest in some windbreaking items and a neck goiter thing that doesn’t collect moisture when I breathe out and ice up…we shall see. Until I get those items, I’ve been a little wussy since we got all this snow.
Hope the eye gets better, doesn’t look like fun!
I don’t mind running outside in the crazy MN/IA winters. I layer lots of Under Armor, mittens, headbands and jackets. The ice is a different issue, that scares me because I don’t really want to fall or get injured. I just watch every step I take and make sure I’m running more on streets than sidewalks!
How do you stay wary of ice outside? I HATE the treadmill and want to run outside but it is icy on my streets. I am so paranoid of falling and getting hurt!
cellulitis sounds like ZERO fun! yay for people from prussia!
hey! i would love to know how to dress to run outside. i have just started getting into running but get to bored after 10 min on the treadmil. i am a huge baby in the cold. right now i am wearing two pairs of pants and wrapped in a fleece blanket. why i live in this state is beyond me
